ROOT CANAL

Sometimes a deep cavity, traumatic blow, or large fracture can cause the nerve of the tooth to become infected and die. When this occurs, it can result in extreme dental pain, thermal sensitivity or swelling in the affected area.  If left untreated, this will result in severe pain which can impair eating and even disturb sleep, which will persist until the inflamed nerve is removed.

During root canal treatment, the tooth is numbed with a local anaesthetic. An opening is then made into the tooth in order to reach the nerve space. The inflamed nerve tissue is then removed and the nerve chamber is disinfected and sealed with a special filling material. With currents advances in technology, root canals are performed with modern techniques and materials, making the procedure far more comfortable and faster. After root canal treatment, a crown is usually placed on the tooth to protect it as they become more prone to fracture.
