IMPLANTS

Dental implants are another method in which missing teeth can be replaced. They are less invasive compared to bridges since the teeth adjacent to the gap do not need to be reduced, conserving the neighbouring teeth.

Dental implants consist of two components. A titanium anchor is embedded in the jaw bone, and this replaces the root of the missing tooth. A crown is then attached to the titanium anchor, which replaces the part of the tooth above the gums.

A surgical procedure is required to insert the titanium anchor, followed by a period of healing where the jaw bone grows and fuses to the titanium surface. Once the anchor has successfully integrated to the jaw bone, it serves as a foundation for the restoration replacing the tooth.

Dental implants are the closest we can come to replacing missing teeth. They are the ideal treatment in that they do not involve the trimming of the adjacent teeth. They also are more comfortable than dentures, are more retentive and allow for greater chewing efficiency.

For the implants to be placed, the patient must be in good health, and there needs to be adequate bone for the insertion of the implant. If the bone quantity is inadequate, adjunctive grafting procedures may be required to increase the bone volume. We offer thorough evaluations to help determine if our patients are good candidates for dental implants.
